C-130

Today we went to the Ordnance Museum at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, and we saw two C-130 pilots practicing maneuvers over the museum. Look at how sharp of a turn they made.

Budding Entrepreneur

Scott here. I thought I'd cross post this on Eddie's blog for him because it's so cute and creative.

Eddie scratched this up on a recycled piece of schoolwork during dinner last night at the White Palace. He's very thorough. Eddie's disclaimers about writing on walls and "not to use for break because of anger" come from direct experience in his class this week.

Perhaps we have the next Bill Gates or Warren Buffett?

Fly Further

Air France has made this new game that I really like, and that I would suggest to you that you try it. All you have to do is fly the jet with your mouse, and avoid red squares and get blue squares. If you run out of comforts on the top, then you land where ever you are, and it will show you where you are. Your destination that you really want to get to is Buenos Aires. That will defeat the whole game.

Please vote for which one you think I should get for my first car or just tell me if you have any other suggestions of a good car. You can vote using the gadget on the side of my blog. Slim Jim

Yesterday, me and Grandma were on a walk when we saw a snake. It was a garter snake. It was dropped by a mockingbird, but it wasn't dead. It was alive. I don't know very well how to take care of it. Like to keep it living until after lunchtime, so I called my friend Gabi over and she helped me watch it until after lunchtime. Then, we went in, it bit Gabi, just a little nip, wasn't very bad, and then Gabi set it free down by the creek with me. It crawled over a marshy spot, over a spider web in the reeds, and then an hour later we did not see him again.

My Friends and I Save a Bird

Saturday, Eoin, Maura and I saved a bird. It was a house finch. And it was a baby house finch. Really I was the one who found it. I was walking along the side of the road, when I happened to look down and I thought I saw a rock move. But when I looked even closer, it turned out to be a bird.

It was drenched, and I thought it was so drenched that it couldn't fly. Then I got Maura and Eoin to bring their net over to it, and then we caught it and we brought it into the garage for a few minutes and gave it food. Then, Mrs. Sharon took it out to a tree in her back yard. And she set it free.

I was proud when I saved that bird.

Rocket Parachute

This is a video of my new rocket. It takes videos and pictures while it shoots and lands. We didn't exactly do it great because this was my first launch. So we only got it parachuting down, but that's still good. So watch this video, you'll see how it's like to be a rocket and watching your parachute sail down.

Hyundai Azera Game

This is a game that I just found on y8.com that I like. And my Dad was interested in it because it's Hyundai. You're driving along with artifacts, and people are throwing stuff out of their trucks and helicopters. Try it!

Jamestown Field Trip

These are pictures from my Jamestown trip. I enjoyed it a lot. We went to the Yorktown Victory Center and Jamestown Settlement. This is the 401st anniversary of Jamestown. My Mom was the best chaperon ever. I hope you like the pictures. There's also a video of a man shooting a flintlock rifle at the end. It was really loud.

Dogs Save Big Cats!!

This is my project for school. I hope you like it. Our assignment was to write about a certain kind of service dog. I chose the Anatolian Shepherd Dog, which is a very big dog which looks like a pug when it's a puppy, as you can see in the picture.

These dogs guard livestock in Namibia and protect them from cheetahs and other predators. To support this program, see www.cheetah.org.

Here is my project:

Anatolian Shepherd Dog

Service

  • Since 1994 in Africa, it has been protecting herds of goats from Cheetahs, but also keeping the Cheetahs from being shot by the ranchers.

ExpectationS

  • Keeps the Cheetahs from coming on the ranch and killing the goats, they act as guard dogs. They are kind to the sheep.

Breed Characteristics

  • From Turkey

  • Size about 130 pounds, would be enough to scare a big game animal away

  • Tireless worker

  • Trusted guardian

  • Must fit among flock

  • Must have physical stamina to be able to handle climate changes

  • Displays high level of intelligence

  • Often works on its own with the flock and it makes independent decisions

  • Lives with and guard livestock.

History of Breed

  • Used in Turkey for thousands of years

  • Known by natives as the Coban Kopegi which means shepherd dog

  • Arrived in the U.S. in the 1930's as a gift from Turkey to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

  • The first active breeding started in the early 1970's

  • Ranchers in the United States used them for reducing and eliminating predators.

Training

  • Like other guards for livestock, they need to learn who its supposed to guard

  • From puppyhood on, it lives with the animals it guards.

  • Obedience training helps it understand its place in the family structure

  • Will recognize and respect human adults as its leader.

supporting the program

  • The Cheetah Conservation Fund has provided free Anatolian Shepherd livestock guarding dogs to ranchers in Namibia.

  • These dogs protect the livestock and this means that the farmers don't have to kill the cheetahs to keep their animals safe.

  • To support this program visit www.cheetah.org for more information.
